I wish we had decided to drive there together. The idea of getting there first is always troubling. Walking into the bar, I wasn't sure if she was there yet or not. I craned my neck and methodically surveyed every square foot of the bar, like a surveillance camera making no attempt at concealing its presence. No sign of her.

She told me she was on her way over half an hour ago. I gave myself plenty of time to ensure that she beat me there, and the fact that my plan seems to have failed perturbs me slightly. I suddenly find myself hating this place, and resigned to the fact that I am going to do my best to sabotage this evening. Still no sign of her.

Everyone here is more attractive than me. They're all exceedingly loud as well. Their volume appears to be inversely proportional to how well-thought out what they are saying is. Everyone can go to hell. Maybe I should get a beer or something. Yeah.

I keep my eye on the door. Swaths of knuckle-draggers and mouth-breathers meander in and out. I check my phone absentmindedly. Nothing. Still no sign of her.

Is that her? No, it isn't. Jet-black hair. Actually, jet-black everything. Steely demeanor. I'm surprised the guy next to her isn't saluting her or something. She looks like she belongs. Him, not so much. He doesn't seem upset though. They obviously got here at the same time. Solid plan. All I want to now is check the time stamp on her text message, to determine how much time has elapsed. That will serve as the variable in some passive-aggressive mathematical formula I'll use to determine just how mad to be at her.

Let's see now.

Ah, there it is.

Wait. This isn't The Murphy.

No sign of her.
